God Wins: The Message of the Book of Revelation: Strategies in the Genre 2

By:  Ray Jewell

Seven Beatitudes

1:3; 22:7 – God’s servants are blessed because they have heard God’s Word and obeyed.

16:15 – The Christian must always be on guard. Christ will come unexpectedly so the Christian’s character and conduct must be a life seeking to be obedient to God’s will.

19:8 – At the final coming [of Jesus] the righteous are blessed because they are invited to share in intimate fellowship with Christ because of their faithfulness.

22:15 – Jesus pronounces as blessed those who have remained pure and faithful.

14:13 – Those who remain faithful to the Lord unto death and do not worship evil will be blessed.

20:4-6 – Those who remained faithful unto death will be blessed because they share in the first resurrection. This includes both those who were executed because they did not give in to evil forces and those who died natural deaths and were faithful until the end.

“If Anyone . . .”

13:9-10 – How to respond to the beast who wars against the church (even imprisonment or death).

14:9b-12 – If anyone worships the beast . . . eternal punishment. Verse 12 is a call for Christians to endure, obey, and remain faithful to Jesus.

20:15 – Those not found in the Book of Life will be thrown into the lake of fire. Words of comfort (enemies will be judged) and words of warning (Christians must not compromise).

Virtues and Vices

9:20-21 – The characteristics of those who refuse to repent and worship God.

14:4-5 – Christians are those who have not defiled themselves with women.

21:8, 27; 22:15 – John contrasts those who will dwell forever with God and those who will be forever apart from God.
